Beyond Blue: Recruit a Squad To Build a New Digital Experience
Challenge: Recruit a squad to build a ground-up digital experience for an existing service within a complex charity organisation not known for technical innovation
Action: Create a simple yet detailed overview of the organisation, tying it to an emotive and compelling narrative regarding the impact of this project
Result: Squad recruited in record time, ready to hit the ground running and meet aggressive delivery timeframes
Challenge
Beyond Blue is Australia’s leading and most established mental health charity. They offer Early Intervention services, providing workplaces, employees, and members of the public with free access to a mental health coach. The service needed to be digitised and a new squad was created to lead the design, build and release.
As with most Charities, Beyond Blue has a complex internal structure with numerous stakeholders and governance. It was essential for us to navigate these factors and recruit exceptional talent within a tight timeframe.
Action
We quickly realised that to be successful, we needed to establish a simple yet detailed understanding of the organisation, its services, and how they interlink. This ensured that everyone we spoke to clearly understood where these new roles would be positioned and how they would operate internally. Coupled with a strong, emotive narrative about the positive impact of the work, we were able to overcome the common reservations about charities being ‘slow, bureaucratic and hard to navigate’
Result
Recruited all roles within 7 weeks, including Product Management, UX Design, and Low/No-Code Development.
Twelve months later, we have achieved a 100% retention rate.
“Fun, direct and easy to work with, Matt has recently helped us recruit an excellent digital product squad at Beyond Blue. He sourced stellar talent, gave succinct and accurate summaries, coordinated times for us to meet and provided clear and timely feedback to both us and the candidates in a smooth and pain-free process. Thanks Matt, it was a pleasure working with you!”
